The Five Children & It

By Burnt Coffee Theatre Company

Adapted and Directed by Joe Flatt

When Cyril, Anthea, Robert, Jane and the baby moved to the countryside, they were already convinced they had hit the jackpot. Blue skies and acres of land to explore, with parents too busy to notice. Yet, what they didn’t expect to find is a Psammead. Yes, that’s right. A ‘Sammy-add’. Or, a Sand-Fairy. The latter is much easier to say.

Now, having a Sand-Fairy for a friend means having one wish granted each day. They have been granting wishes for centuries, and are earth’s most magical beings. But, the children don’t realise all the trouble a Psammead can cause and have to learn quite quickly… be careful what you wish for!

An imaginative take of E.Nesbit’s timeless classic. Perfect for all the family.

Last year we took our adaptation of Wind In The Willows to theatres in East Anglia, and received reviews such as…

“…for quite such boundless inventiveness, pace, energy and imagination.” – Local Theatre Reviewer.

“The extraordinary use of simple (multi-functional) props and set, effects, physicality, sound and much more was a delight. The characters were beautifully defined, with plenty of explosive energy but balanced with a real sympathy and a lovely, non-sentimental social awareness and inclusivity at the end.” – Local Theatre Reviewer.

“The inventiveness of the physical comedy in this performance was outstanding. Props are used in unexpected ways and the scenes on the riverbank, the wild wood and on the river itself are brought to life with the use of simple but effective techniques. The whole thing has a playfulness and sometimes even silliness that works brilliantly with the text.” – The Reading Bug.
