Shopping in Norwich
From the cobbled Norwich Lanes to the Royal Arcade’s Art Nouveau elegance, you’ll be wowed by the eclectic mix of independent shops. And with two large city-centre malls, an impressive array of department stores, and the boutiques of Norfolk’s market towns, there’s something for everyone.
Norwich is the only place outside of London's Oxford Street to have four of the major department stores – John Lewis, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and House of Fraser - and of course it also has Jarrold, Norwich's flagship independent department store which has been at the heart of Norwich since 1823. Between them they stock all the High Street brands you would expect and some exclusive brands you might not.
Norwich is home to the Norwich Lanes where you will find an array of independent and boutique shops winding through the historic heart of the city. There are also two modern shopping centres – Chapelfield which opened in 2005 and Castle Mall. In the midst of all this is also the historic Norwich market place which dates back to Saxon times. No wonder Norwich rates sixth in the top 10 of shopping destinations in the UK. It's not just cutting edge fashions you can find in Norwich, but something for all tastes, ages and pockets…. And all is within easy walking distance of each other. Having worked up an appetite you may want to stop at one of the many independent cafes, dining pubs and restaurants serving fresh, local produce.
Located next to Norwich Castle, in the heart of the city centre, the Castle Mall has five floors of great shopping, ample parking and an eight screen cinema. Find big name brands such as TK Maxx, Tiger and New Look, as well as a wide variety of independent stores such as The Tea Junction, Gifted and The Java Store.

Take the time to talk with these folks who bring you the labors of their livelihood every week. And share that story with your friends and neighbors. Farmers markets build that connection by bringing you closer to the source of the food and crafts that you buy.
