A restaurant in Norwich will once again be serving customers after storm damage closed the site for 10 days.

The Waffle House in St Giles Street will reopen on Tuesday at midday.

Emily Blakemore, restaurant manager, said: “We are really pleased to be reopening and can’t wait to welcome everyone back in on Tuesday.

“We’d like to thank all of our customers for their support during this really difficult time. So many regulars have been coming up and asking when we would be reopening.

“The place means so much to people and we are very excited to see everyone again.”

The Waffle House was one of several businesses that were damaged in the city during the storm in the early hours of June 14.

Part of the listed Georgian building’s ceiling came down and there was water damage on the third floor.

“The main restaurant and kitchen areas were unaffected by the damage and we will be reopening the full operation on Tuesday,” Mrs Blakemore said.

“Remedial work is still ongoing but it will not impact the day-to-day running of the restaurant.”

Mrs Blakemore, who has worked at The Waffle House for 20 years, said that other than during the COVID pandemic, the site has only had to close for one day due to a snowstorm.

“I don’t think we have ever had to close for a week,” she added.

The Waffle House opened in 1978 and has operated as a small, independent business in St Giles Street since.

Boots in London Street was forced to close due to severe flooding and damage to its roof following the storm and The Lamb in Haymarket also had to close after becoming flooded.

John Lewis, Marks & Spencer and the BBC Look East studios at The Forum were also damaged.
